Standard Room

Seven standard rooms within the homestay, on a street next to the beach, with various food stalls on the other side. Four double bed rooms and three twin bed rooms, each with a private bathroom, solar-heated shower, and air-conditioning.

Diving

Arranged Through Borneo Cottage Maratua

The homestay has no dive centre of its own. Diving is arranged through Borneo Cottage Maratua, our sister property five minutes’ walk away, using its boats, tanks, and divemasters. See Borneo Cottage Maratua’s dive sites page for details on Maratua, Kakaban, Sangalaki, and The Channel.

Inclusions & Exclusions

Included

• ✓Accommodation: twin share with attached bathroom and air-conditioning. Shower hot water supply utilises solar panel energy.
• ✓Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, plus unlimited tea and coffee.
• ✓Transfers: return land and boat transfers between Berau and Maratua. Groups of fewer than four travel on the regular boat that plies the route daily, essentially public transport shared with local passengers; groups of four or more travel instead on Borneo Cottage Maratua’s own boat. • ✓Diving: 3 boat dives per day (except arrival and departure days), each accompanied by a Divemaster. Tanks with air, weights, and weight belts included.
• ✓Island trips: for stays of 5 nights or more, one trip each to Kakaban and Sangalaki is included. The Channel is included once (certification and experience requirements apply).
• ✓Snorkelling: non-divers and snorkellers join the dive boat.

Not Included

• ✗Dive equipment rental: BCD, regulator, and personal dive equipment available for rent at Borneo Cottage Maratua.
• ✗Whale shark watching at Talisayan: available as an add-on; additional boat and conservation fees apply.
• ✗Travel insurance: comprehensive dive and travel insurance is strongly recommended, particularly given the regular boat’s dependence on weather and tide.
• ✗Gratuities: tips for the team are not included but always appreciated.
• ✗Single supplement: solo travellers are charged an additional 25% of the package price.

Cancellation Policy

A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking. Full cancellation terms will be provided with your booking confirmation.

Unused Services

No refund will be issued for any unused portion of a trip (including accommodation, dives, meals, transfers, or permits) once the trip has departed from the point of origin.

Park & Conservation Fees

The following fees are charged per person and are payable directly at the point of entry or to the relevant authority.

Day Trip Boat Fees

Fees are per boat per trip. For stays of 5 nights or more, one trip each to The Channel, Kakaban, and Sangalaki is included in the package. The fees below apply for additional trips or for stays under 5 nights.

Day trip boat fees are subject to change without notice due to fluctuating fuel costs.

Group Leader Complimentary (FOC)

One complimentary package is offered to the tour leader of any qualifying group: for every 9 paying guests departing from Berau. The group leader must arrive and depart with the group.

The complimentary package covers twin-share accommodation, meals, and diving. Unused portions cannot be exchanged for cash or carried forward. Any additional charges are payable directly to the homestay.
