About the Homestay
Built for the Village, Open to Visitors
Borneo Homestay Maratua opened in 2016, the first of what are now three related properties on the island. Borneo Cottage Maratua and Maratua Dive Resort came after. The homestay was built for local Indonesian travellers, and that is still much of who stays here. In recent years, divers, snorkellers, and non-divers looking for a simpler, more affordable base have started booking rooms too, drawn by the location and the price rather than any resort features the homestay was never built to offer.
The homestay sits on a street running behind Teluk Harapan’s main beach, directly across from a row of food stalls, small shops, and cafes. Most of what a guest needs is within a five-minute walk in one direction or another. Read more about the homestay →
Diving
No Dive Centre of Our Own, and No Need for One
The homestay doesn’t run its own dive operation. Diving packages here use the boats, tanks, and divemasters of Borneo Cottage Maratua, our sister property five minutes’ walk away. Three boat dives a day, each with a divemaster, on the same sites around Maratua, Kakaban, and Sangalaki that Borneo Cottage’s own guests dive.

Accommodation
Seven Rooms, Simple and Comfortable
Four double rooms and three twin rooms, each with a private bathroom, solar-heated shower, and air-conditioning. None of them face the water directly, the beach is a short walk across the street, but every room has what matters after a day on the boat: a hot shower, cool air, and a proper bed.
Packages & Rates
Stays from Three to Nine Nights
Packages run from four days/three nights up to ten days/nine nights, priced per person on a twin-share basis in US dollars, with separate diver and non-diver rates. Stay five nights or longer and the package includes one trip each to Kakaban and Sangalaki, plus a dive at The Channel, at no extra boat fee.
